SD & LA

This is the last of my photos from our California trip! This is a really photo-heavy post, but I had lots of snaps I wanted to share :) Many of these have/will appear on my Instagram - @jacyoverstreet if you'd like to follow along!

LA

Loved loved loved the Venice Beach Canals! I couldn't stop staring into the gorgeous houses and gardens.

^^Aren't these amazing?! I have no clue what they are, but I love 'em.

^^Such a charming garden along the canals!

^^Bougainvillea, palm trees, and pink & white stucco? LOVE.

^^Paparazzi snap of Trey on Malibu Beach ;)

We made a day-trip up to LA county from where we were staying in the San Diego area, and while LA is shockingly huge, we did feel we were able to see quite a bit. We started off our day in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, which were fun but touristy (not really our vacation style), and then headed for the beach towns. Malibu was nothing short of amazing. We ate a late lunch at Malibu Seafood (highly recommend), and then walked on the beach for a bit, enjoying the sunshine and beautiful beach-side homes.

We then made our way through Santa Monica to Venice Beach, where we spent the most time. The actual beach and Muscle Beach were really fun (Trey loved the skateboard park), but what we were absolutely enthralled with were the canals! Talk about dreamy. The houses and gardens along the peaceful canals were seriously straight out of a European movie it felt like. We strolled the walkways until dusk soaking it all in and being inspired by the beautiful architecture, decor and landscaping (especially all of the modern homes!).

SAN DIEGO

^^I spotted these at a sidewalk flower shop in downtown San Diego and think the color is so pretty! I believe they're called spider mums.

^^Beach day at Oceanside Beach :)

^^My cousin's baby girl, Violet, who quickly became my bestie and gave me all sorts of baby fever! She has the cutest personality I've ever seen. Also, I want an adult version of her dress. The top is elastic and can be worn off-the-shoulder (***insert heart eyes emoji).

^^Cute hubby :)

Our time in the San Diego area was the perfect mixture of relaxing family time and fun sight-seeing. We stayed with my cousins in San Marcos (just inland of Carlsbad/Oceanside), which was a pretty easy drive to the beach, to downtown San Diego in non-rush-hour, and to lots of microbreweries and great restaurants. Living so far away, I don't get to see my grandparents, aunt & uncle, and cousins very much, so we had a blast hanging out with them. Exploring-wise we went to Balboa Park, the Gaslamp District/downtown SD, Encinitas/Lumberyard District, Oceanside/Carlsbad and more. It's so beautiful there! I actually lived in an inland suburb, Escondido, until the age of 9 so I'm somewhat familiar with the area, especially from visiting family over the years. I just love the style, environment and people there! It's so beautiful and laid-back (other than traffic and cost of living ;). Comicon was actually kicking off the day we were in downtown SD, so it was quite busy, but it was cool to see everything being set up and seeing so many people in costume. There were an abundance of microbreweries within a couple of miles of my cousins' house, so Trey was in absolutely heaven going to different tasting rooms. I'm not typically a beer-drinker, but I did try quite a few and have slowly started acquiring a taste for 'real' beers :) If you're ever in the area, you must go to Booze Brothers! We also ate so much good food! Too much good food actually (haha). I definitely needed to detox when we got back and I'm currently in the process of working off some 1st-year-of-marriage + vacation weight gain - no fun.

All of the beach photos are from our last day there, where we did a relaxing beach day before our long drive home. We went to Oceanside Beach, and the weather was perfect! Full sun, but not hot at all because it was in the 70s and there was a nice little breeze coming off the ocean. It was the perfect way to wrap up our trip! I find the ocean so energizing, and after two years away, I was loving every minute of the salty air.

I hope you enjoyed following along on our trip! We made a lot of great memories along the way. Also - I'm so excited because we ordered a new laptop last night, which will make blog posts so much easier! I think I will also be able to order my new camera sometime this week as well, which makes me an exceptionally happy blogger. This period without a laptop and camera has been a test in patience!
